Well, according to Microsoft, this is basically a known and expected issue as well. It happens mainly due to the deadlock between the Credential Manager. And also the Redirector (RDR) and Data Protection API (DPAPI) actually.

Microsoft basically assumes some of the key factors that may be involved in the creation of this”please wait for the user profile service”  issue, for example:

  • If the client-facing this have mapped home folder to a Distributed File System (DFS) path, such as \\<domain-name>\homefolders\users as well.
  • Or if the client has deployed “Set a default associations configuration file” Group Policy Object for file association set actually.
  • And, if the client has Group Policy Preferences for Drive Maps that map a folder in a DFS path. Such as \\<domain-name>\drive1.

So in case if you guys have either of the condition valid for your system, you guys might be facing the issue. You can check out this Microsoft support article. And then download the update package provided there as well. But, note that there is actually no update package available yet as of this writing, for Windows Server 2016 or 2019 too. Well, on these server editions, you guys can boot into Safe Mode. And also adjust your settings based on the above information. So that issue can be prevented as well. And then you guys can also boot back to normal mode to log in as usual.
